Before Your First Appointment

bulletBook a 1 ½ hour appointment.
bulletAsk your medical doctor for copies of all pertinent medical reports, scans and laboratory results. If you cannot get any reports by the time of your first visit, that is OK, just try to get what you can.
bulletAsk the BC Cancer Agency Medical Records to give you copies of your records and request they fax us copies of all future reports, scans and labs (fax: 250-386-3500). We do not order labs or tests.
bulletIts a good idea to write down your questions for Dr. McKinney as to utilize your first appointment most effectively.
bulletOn our new patient intake form we ask what medications you are currently taking, some find it helpful to write them down before hand.

During Your First Appointment

bulletBring all medical reports, scans, lab results, and BC Cancer Agency records that you can assemble. The most recent are the most important. If you do not have any reports yet, that is OK. Just bring what you have.
bulletDr. McKinney will carefully take your medical history and perform a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) examination of your fingernails, tongue and wrist pulses. Other physical examinations may be done.

You will receive:

bulletdietary instructions, including foods and supplements.
bulletspecific support protocols to make surgery, radiation or chemotherapy safer and more effective.
bulletan individualized program to control the growth of your cancer and fortify your system while you wait for your medical cancer treatment to begin, while you are between medical treatments, and after your medical treatment is complete. Your individualized program will be designed to sustain remissions and increase the possibility of a cure.
bulletInformation on symptomatic care for problems that may arise during your medical and naturopathic cancer care; this may include palliative measures.
bulletrecommendations for follow-up: usually a 15 - 30 minute office visit in two weeks, then a 15 minute visit one month later. Dr. McKinney will let you know when its best to come back.

About Cost

bulletCost is $200 for up to an hour and a half.
bullet If you have an Extended Medical Plan - you can be partially reimbursed by your extended health benefit plan, according to their protocols.
bulletCosts of our medications (and any supplements bought from our clinic) are income tax deductible.
bulletNaturopathic medications are not included in the consultation fee. We provide all products Dr. McKinney recommends for your care at affordable and competitive prices. These may include food concentrates, vitamins, minerals, botanical medicines, homeopathic remedies, and traditional Chinese herbal medicines.
bulletFollow up appointments: The first follow-up is usually 30 minutes and after that, it is usually 15 minutes. The rate is $25 per quarter-hour. You can always request more time at the time of booking the appointment.

During Your First Appointment

You will receive:

bulletan individualized program for your chief complaints, for general health care and for prevention of disease. This may include dietetics, supplements, herbs, Chinese medicines, acupuncture or injection therapies.
bulletrecommendation for follow-up: usually a 15 - 30 minute office visit in two weeks, then a 15 minute visit one month later.

About Cost

bulletYour first consultation is $150. If you have extended medical - you can be partially reimbursed by your extended health benefit plan, according to their protocols.
bulletCosts of our medications (and any supplements bought from our clinic) are income tax deductible.

bulletWe do not accept medication returns for refund.
